Get Realtime YouTube Buffer Speed, Total File Size And Downloaded Size

If you watch YouTube videos then you would have noticed that all the videos do not buffer at the same speed, and some of them do not buffer at all. YouTube does not provide any indication that could tell if the video is transferred to the PC or not. Knowing it may not solve the problem entirely and will not make the video to start buffering, but it can surely help us know if the video is not buffering then we can refresh the page or clear the browser’s cache and then reload the page.
Show Buffer Speed While Video Playing is a script that gives this exact functionality, even more than this. It can be installed on browsers like Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome and gives us the download speed and some more information. For Firefox you need to have an extension like Greasemonkey installed for installing the script. But Chrome users can directly click the “Install” button on the script page and then just drop the script file on this “chrome://extensions/” address. This address is to be copied to your Chrome’s address bar.
The values will appear at the bottom of the title of the video being played.

What Does The Above Shown Values Mean :

1. “60 KB/s” is the speed of the buffering, it is the speed at which your PC is receiving the data from YouTube. 2. “3 MB/11MB” is the data downloaded on your computer by the total size of the YouTube video. 3. “0 B” is the byte at which the video started.
NOTE This script works only if the video is played using Flash Player. Nothing is displayed if you view the HTML5 videos.

Verdict
This extension does not increase the YouTube’s buffer speed but is quite useful when you want to check the speed at which your video is being downloaded. Also if the video is not buffering any more, it gives you an idea that you can refresh the page.
