To have quality back links profile from similar niche is must. Of course, variation of links matters, but for a new blog I think the proportion will not be easy to maintain if one website build 2000 back-links in 1 day. In my case I have seen that, Google only help in SEO if there is backlink from active site which is regularly updated. For proof, check your back-links with Alexa.
